2004-09-26: Mechanical issue cost important podium

Result: 7th (GT), 80 laps, 2tim 43min 25,775sec.
Best lap: 1:41.259
We had a very positive weekende, with good teamwork and a new lap record, but also a bit of bad luck. After an unfair one minute stop&go and a rim that broke from wear we headed for second place at Anderstorp. Just over 15 minutes from the finish something happened to the brake balance and the car went of the track. There we had to sit and see the others finish, and we fell to 7th in the GT class.
Friday practice started with Mårten running of the track on what seemed like oil on the track. After cleaing the car up we could go on and test some chassis settings and I ran as fast as my lap record from May this year, 1.40,6. At the end of the practice I ran tyre tests and tried some further adjustments, and clocked 1.39,13 with a bit of traffic.
Qualifying was 15 minutes. Not easy to find a clean lap, but it went ok, but first after the brakes did something strange and sent me off the track. Car was ok though and I did a new try, 1.40,537 which was good enough for Pole Position by a margin of a second. We saved our best tires for the race by the way.
Mårten started the race, changing positions with Hubert Bergh. After 17 laps the safety car came out, and Håkan took the whell. In the lead at lap 47 he came in saying there was serious vibrations in the car. The left rear rim had begun to crack! I hopped into the car when the team changed the rears. Refuelled and went out on the track.

After two laps, when the tyres started to warm a new safety car begun and I pitted for our third mandatory pit stop. We were heading for a good fight to the checkered flag!
Hope disappeared when Mårten got a stop&go penalty for overtaking on yellow flags. Section 8 and 10 showed yellow, but no section 9 where the overtaking took place. Not much to do but it killed our chances of a win. Mårten continued until 20 minutes from the end. I went out and drove for second. On my out lap the brakes once again did its trick of sending the brake balance to the rears and I exited the track, fortunately without breaking anything, but our race was gone as I got stuck beside the track.
2½ laps of driving for me wasn´t much of a fight against Bergh and Sturesson, but that´s the way the strategy went. Next race, the finals, will be the other way around. It´s the most important race of the year, with double points so it´ll be a great race.
Final positions:
Class 4: H B MS (1st tot), Spalding, Glorias
Class 3: Ravila (2nd), Kermit (3rd), Mobimech
Class 2: Skydda Racing, Klugscheisser, Flatout
Class 1: Citroén/X3M, Type R, V&S

Points standings (top 5):

2. Hubert Bergh Motorsport 50p (-5)
3. Glorias Motorsport 42p (-6)

The team is now preparing the car and we will focus on setup and strategy for the final. We tested at Mantorp this spring so we feel confident we will be competitive.
Talk to you soon!
